The Azerbaijan Technological University (ATU) held a commemorative event dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day.

The ceremony began with the playing of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country. A short film titled “In the Footsteps of History” was then screened.

Speeches were delivered by Shahmar Hasanov, ATU’s Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations, and Associate Professors Huseyn Budagov and Mehriban Taghiyeva from the Department of Social Sciences and Multiculturalism.

The speakers emphasized that although the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed for only 23 months, the initiatives undertaken during that first republican period played a crucial role in laying the foundations of Azerbaijani statehood and defining its future development path.

The event highlighted:

•    Azerbaijan’s struggles for independence across different historical periods
•    The pivotal role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in preserving the country’s unity following its re-independence in the late 20th century
•    The continuation of his legacy through the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, especially through the Victory Chronicle that reaffirmed the nation’s sovereignty
•    The enduring power of the independence ideal, which continues to guide Azerbaijan confidently into the future

A strong sense of national pride and historical reflection was at the heart of the celebration.

At the Azerbaijan Technological University (ATU), a meeting was held to review preparations for the summer examination session and to address other current issues.

University rector Yashar Omarov and members of the academic and administrative leadership attended the session. He announced that, in line with the Ministry of Science and Education’s directive, the exam session would begin on June 2 and continue for five weeks. To ensure smooth and high-quality exam administration, he assigned specific tasks to the relevant departments regarding:

•    Preparing exam halls and computer rooms
•    Ensuring all surveillance systems are operational
•    Strengthening security measures across the campus

To guarantee transparency and fairness, an Examination Headquarters and an Appeals Commission have been established. The rector encouraged faculty deans and department heads to approach these responsibilities with a high sense of accountability.

The meeting also included in-depth discussions on the 2025 academic admission plan and other key agenda items.
