History of the creation of the department

The department functioned as part of the Department of Physical and Electrotechnical Disciplines from 1970 to 1975. Since 1975 three departments were created on the basis of this department. One of them was the chair "Automation and Computer Science", which functioned from 1975 to 2004.

Since 2004 the chair has been functioning as the chair "Automation and Control" with a new staff and a new name. The chair trains engineers-automatics on specialities Management and Informatics in Technical Systems, Automation of Technological Processes and Productions.    Guliyev Hamlet Bilal (1985-1990), PhD  Asadov Adil Mehdi (1990-2000), PhD.Huseynov Nazim Isfandiyar oglu (2000-2005), PhD Rzayeva Nurlan Rzayev (2000-2005), PhD  Rzayev Nurlan Rzayev (2000-2005). Rzaeva Nurlana Rza gizi (2005-2006), PhD  Kazymov Mirza Saleh  (2006-2007), Prof. Bagirov Bayram Muhammed (2007-2009, 2010-2011), PhD Kazymov Mirza Saleh (2009-2010).

Since February 2013 the chair has been headed by candidate of technical sciences, PhD Hajiyev Rovshan Mustafa oglu. The Chair closely cooperates with the Scientific Innovation Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan Oil Academy and departments of Automation and Control of other universities of the republic, including universities of the Russian Federation, Georgia. With the help of global Internet and ICT network the work is carried out in the field of development of new teaching aids, programme and methodical instructions corresponding to the European standards in different directions of automatics, their active use in the educational process. The chair creates its own departmental library. Here are collected texts of lectures, programmes, methodical instructions, textbooks and manuals, books on automatics, automatic control systems and various sections of technology. Scientific seminars, open classes are regularly held at the department. The results of scientific-research work are discussed. Employees of the department publish scientific - methodical recommendations, books, in scientific journals, at scientific-practical conferences make interesting presentations in the field of automation and automatic control of production processes.

In 2017, the Department of Automation and Information Technologies was established, and Associate Professor Rovshan Mustafa oglu Hajiyev was elected Head of the Department. Hajiyev Rovshan Mustafa oglu was elected Head of the Department.

In 2022-2023, PhD Ismailov Ismailov Gabil Mejid held the position of Head of the Department of "Automation and Information Technology".
