Yashar Omarov was born on December 1, 1977 in Baku. After graduating from Yasamal district secondary school No. 52, he was admitted to Baku State University (BSU) in 1995 to study for a bachelor's degree in "Biochemistry" and graduated in the same specialty in 1999. In 1999-2001, he continued his education at the BSU Master's degree program on the same specialty. In 2001, he was admitted to the postgraduate program of BSU, and in 2007, he defended his doctoral dissertation and received the degree of Candidate of Sciences in Biology.
He started his career in 1999 as a laboratory assistant at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology of BSU. In 2001-2014, he worked as a senior laboratory assistant, head of the laboratory, teacher, associate professor and deputy dean at the same Faculty. During 2014-2019, he worked as a leading and senior consultant at the Department of Science, Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic. Since 2019 he has worked as a head of the Higher, Secondary Special and Additional Education Sector at the Department of Science, Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic.
Starting in July 2021, Y.A.Omarov served as vice-rector for Science and Innovation and vice-rector for Academic Affairs at Azerbaijan Technological University. Yashar Omarov was entrusted with the position of Rector of the Azerbaijan Technological University by the order of the Minister of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic dated 25.07.2022. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 4, 2024, he was appointed as the Rector of the Azerbaijan Technological University.
